CB72/77 Footrest Brackets

Post by Tim Allman » Thu Mar 09, 2017 2:20 pm

Has anyone had any experience straightening out the CB72/77 footrest brackets? Mine are both bent (too many late nights at the pub in my 20s) and one shows some cracking. They are still available at David Silver but *very* pricey.

Hi Tim, When they are cracked they should be welded as the crack will spread and it will break. I have welded many in my time.
I suggest you get all your straightening done then find a welding shop with a guy who can weld ally, ideally he will use an AC TIG welding machine. There are other ways to do it but I won't bore you with them as they are not as good. You will have to fettle them after (tidy up the weld) I use a belt sander.

It's a good idea to heat them before straightening, as these crack and brake quite easily. Regards, Chase
