Dear All,
I couldn`t find a special paperwork-related topic on the forum, so I ask my question here, perhaps someone has had similar experience. I purchased an old Yamaha to get some company for my Scrambler and i got this old pink slip for it from `74. Unfortunately it is not signed by the original owner since he passed away probably many years ago. The guy I purchased the bike from says that I should just sign it by myself and go to the DMV with that. I wonder if that`s a good idea, because, what if they see in their system that the owner passed away, say, 15 years ago, and I just bought a bike from him.... Any ideas, experiences? Another question, what about the back fees that you have to pay normally for vehicles not being in non-operational state? Is it the same thing for oldtimers sitting in the garage for decades? Or how does the DMV handle that?
Thanks for any thoughts shared!
Peperwork related question, unsigned pink slip
DMV paperworkApe, here's my story, although just a bit different than yours-
About four years ago, a neighbor up the street passed away. In his garage was this 1978 CB750. After reaching a deal with his wife, I bought it. I called the DMV, explained my story, and they told me what I'd need to transfer the title to my name. It was super easy. I had to get a certified copy of his death certificate, she had to fill out some E form downloaded from the DMV website stating she was the rightful owner and that no family person was disputing this sale. With those few documents, the pink signed off it was done in less than an hour. My purchase was non op for 15 years...all I paid was for current year and some other incidental small fee's. Your situation is way different. If you have to pay back license fee's, you'll puke. But maybe I'm wrong on that one, but like I said, call them, tellem your story and you'll find out what you need to do. I highly recommend staying away from marring the pink with any name until you find out exactly what to do. Hope it works out well for you
