Early vs. Late Dreams

Post by noeyes » Mon Mar 30, 2015 8:13 pm

What year models are considered "early" and "late" Dreams?

I have a '64 CA77. It seems to make a difference as far as clutch cables. Not sure which part no. to order.

Thanks,
Mark

First off..welcome. You should get Bill Silver's Guides. They list the correct parts according to frame number and engine number. Parts were changed out throughout various times during production. I have a late 64 and a 65 and there are some differences. If you can't get the guides post your engine and frame numbers with any question as to what part you are interested in. Someone will respond.
Cheers, Jeff.

There are a few differences but a couple quick ways to tell are the tank and the "eyebrows" over the rear wheel.

Thanks!!!

Going by those pics mine is a "Late" model. I've noticed on some the clutch cable goes straight down into the cover and some go down into the cover at an angle. Mine is at an angle.

Which clutch cable should I order?

I believe the part number you need is 22870-271-000.

CA78

Post by conbs » Fri Apr 10, 2015 7:02 pm

Your bike is a CA78 produced somewhere between mid 1963 and mid 1965 (assuming you have the original motor/left side engine cover). If you search "CA78" on this site I have posted several times on the differences in parts that were part of the changeover from CA77 to CA78. Generally, the parts book will tell you what you need by looking at your frame/engine number. However, if it is a 1963 CA78 you will find that Honda did not provide the right information on frame/engine numbers to figure things out. For the most part you can just use the "late" parts listed for 1964 and beyond but, I have seen what may be a couple of exceptions.

Best wishes on your project.
