Lady Rider... or trying to be.. '67 honda Dream 305 Q's

Post by jenhillegass » Thu Aug 16, 2007 10:13 am

Hi. I'm totalyl new to this site.. but praying for help..

I live in South Central PA & I just bought a 1967 Honda Dream 305 and it has about 2,000 miles on it. I paid $300 and she's in great shape. The gentleman just wanted rid of it...??? It has been sitting in storage for 10+ years. I've taken her for a few short rides up & down the road in front of my house.

I just called the parts store to get an oil filter & I was told that the bike probably doesn't have a filter ..??? I'm looking for recommended oil.

The only issues that I have are:

a) no factory turn signals..I'm going to need them for safety reasons..
b) the speedometer isn't working (no peg)
c) My biggest problem right now is that my electric starter doesn't work - you can hear it running but it won't engage & I'm a 30 yr old woman & I weigh about 120 lbs & its all i can do to kick start this machine. my husband actually starts it for me. Once you get it started she runs like a 'dream'
But i really want to get that starter fixed.

I'm looking for help.

I just got my motocycle permit & I'm going to start riding this weekend - other than changing the oil, do you have any pretrip advice on things i should do?

Thank you kindly,

jen hillegass

Hey neighbor(I am a fellow Pa. resident and live near Hershey)Congtrats on the "new" old bike!Sound like you got a great deal. You came to the right place for help.I know I got and get plenty here. You may want to invest in a parts book or at least get an owners manual for it to help you.Make sure your starter chain is actually installed. The starter clutch may need repaired.Tiny springs engage rollers that will inturn engage the sprocket to turn the crank shaft, these springs may be gunked up with oil or be weak or broken. Not sure how else to describe it without showing you a picture.Bike has an oil slinger and not a traditional type filter. It is behind the round cover on the left side cover near the shifter.Have to be careful pulling it out so it goes back in properly.I am using NAPA Non-detergent 30W oil which is recommended on this site by some folks. An old bike may need new tires and tubes and brakes checked and cables replaced or lubed.Just a good going over for safety sake. Also, there is a vintage Japanese swap meet and show near York, Pa this Fri, Sat. and Sunday.Would be a great place to take your bike and get info and help.It is in Jefferson at the White Rose MC .Hope I helped and I'm sure others will jump in that know and forgot more than I.Good luck.Joe
