1965 cl72 fender to fork bolts. what thread pitch?

Post by Mark13018 » Sat May 03, 2014 4:46 am

I bought some m6 bolts to put my fender on and they had a coarse (1.00) and a fine (1.25). I bought 4 of both of them and tried both and neither work. I think it was a 12mm long bolt but it barely went in and was tight after just 1-2 threads, if that.

The old JIS standard doesn't show a change for m6 fasteners. What gives?

If you are mounting your fender to your fender brace they are 5mm bolts, not 6mm and are the old JIS pitch which is 0.9. I believe the pitch you will find now is 0.8. The bolts that mount the brace to the forks are 8mm.

Oops. I meant m8 not m6 for the fender to the fork... The 8 hole fender is together and done... I just need to get it onto the bike... Neither 1.00 nor 1.25 thread pitch wants to go in easily and I don't want to strip anything.

I believe the 8mm bolts should be fine pitch, 1.00. Of the four bolts that hold the brace to the forks, the one that holds the stay arm is a special bolt for that application.
