What kind of Handlbars are these?

Post by bass-o-matic » Thu Feb 07, 2008 12:32 am

I want to replace all my cables and I found all the part numbers from my parts book based on the frame number. 103619

Front Brake Cable 45450-270-000
Throttle Cable 17910-268-820
Clutch Cable 22870-268-821
Rear Brake 43460-268-010
Tach Cable 37260-268-020

Question 1: Are my handlebars... based on the picture... the ones MEANT for a 1964? EG... my frame number? If so, then I can assume my part numbers are correct.

Question 2: If my bars are correct for my year then I guess all the early year cables I'm finding for the "straight bars" will not fit. True?

Question 3: Anyone have a supplier for the later type cables?

Thanks!

Hmmm.... should I return to the flat bars? What are the benefits?

Hey Guys. I think I like these handlebars and want to keep them but I'm having a hard time finding cables... are these Low Rise Bars? Has anyone had any success with cables on these?

Or is it the general consensus that these look like crap and I really should go back to the straight bars?

Thanks!

I am having the same issue, everyone tells you that these bikes (mine is 1964) started life with "flat bars" - great for boy racers not so good if you travel any distance. I am currently working on the theory that part number 17910-268-820 is the longer throttle cable and 17910-268-800 the shorter but its only a theory. There are loads of shorter throttle cables around @ about $20, but the only 17910-268-820 cables I can find are genuine Honda @ $60 (ebay). Incidentally Pirsig's bike (1964 CB77 by all accounts) did NOT have flat bars (see attached) presumable he changed them for the journey? - sensible chap.
Its just possible to use the shorter cable but you have to route it the other side of the steering head, works OK but it doesn't look nice.

It is a European half high handlebar (probably the same as on a CB450 European model)
