I'm confused about decoding VIN

Post by Cur Mudgeon » Wed Aug 14, 2013 12:35 pm

I just purchased a CB77. It had been in an old woman's basement for 30+ years. Of course there is no paperwork with it. It's suprisingly complete. The exhaust has been changed and it's sporting a metalflake green paint job straight out of the '70s. Showing a little less than 11K miles. It has the '65 and later spedo face and a 1980 license plate.

Now, the frame # is: CB77 1014628. Engine # is: CBE 1014487. The only listing I could find so far only goes to '64. There was also discussion about the 1 preceeding the actual number.

Can someone direct me to a year/frame# index? I'm also curious if there is a model year vs changes made index.

Back when I was just a few years out of high school, a kid down the street had a Superhawk. It was bad ass and he would let me ride it. I've wanted one ever since. I'm proud to add this one to my collection of vintage bikes.

Hello Cur: Everyone is a bit leery about putting down their location when they first come on.
Go ahead and do that and I am sure you will get replies. mike

Don't mind posting my location here. I was just in a hurry when I signed up. I'll put up some pix of the bike soon as I take some.

Chances are you have a late 1965 bike.
Thanks for adding your location. ..............lm

Yea, its a 65. I just thought it would easier to document with frame numbers.

My first attempt at posting pix didn't work. I'll get it working and everybody can see the "Before"
