Seat Trim

Post by cadman » Sat May 04, 2013 12:08 pm

The seat trim is held on by four very small nuts on each side. On my bike these nuts attached to round head screws in the channel on the back side of the trim. Impossible to remove. I finally used a grinder to remove the nuts. I replaced the existing hardware with #6 flat head screws, nuts and washers. I ground a bit of a flat spot on the heads of the screws so they would fit the channel and hopefully not turn when tightened. Pics included.

seat trim mounts

Post by mike horvath » Sun May 05, 2013 9:53 pm

Cadman,
That's exactly how I did mine. None of them spun while snugging them up. The trick for me was aligning the new fasteners with the existing holes in the seat pan, then pre-punching a hole in the new seat material to pop the screws through. It all worked out fine in the end.

I don't have any pics , but this is what I do. use an aluminum roofing nail, trim the head into a "tee" shape with side cutters (gets a better bite on the trim), leave the nail long and pointy for now to aid in install. push the nail thru the seat cover in the original holes, drive a tin speed nut onto the nail up snug, trim the nail to length with your side cutter and that's it. done probably a dozen seats this way.
