EvapoRust - $20 per gallon at Harbor Freight. Good Stuff!

OR...!

I have used a mixture of naval jelly (Lowes - $5) and water. Mix about half the bottle in a plastic milk jug, dump it into the tank, fill the tank all the way up to the hole with water and let it sit for a good 24 hours. Do Not Cap ( I usually just place the cap in the hole, if its rusty too).

Neutralize with baking soda; empty the tank into something, dump into the tank a heavy solution of water and baking soda, swish it around really good, empty, and blast it out with a garden hose...a pressure washer from a car wash is even better!

Tell me that ain't purty...:)

Oh, BTW: 'Completely coated in rust..." ??

I opened up a tank on one of the bikes I repaired once and it looked like (no lie) a geode inside...crystals and everything!

I knocked down the majority of it with a BIG box of BB's and kerosene, then did the naval jelly thing...came out looking like new....

Just FYI...
