Throttle not returning

Post by hoffmajo » Sat Sep 10, 2011 10:21 pm

I'm a brand new CB77 owner as of today and while unloading the bike from my pickup, I noticed the throttle feels like there is no tension (I test rode the bike before buying and it worked perfectly before loading). The throttle just moves fore/aft without any tension as though a spring is broken. I uncapped the 1-into-2 black plastic box and all cables are still attached from what I can tell. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Josh

Welcome to the forum!

Dismantle the throttle housing on the handlebar to see if the cable is still attached. If it is you will need to pull the tops off the carbs to see if the slides have stuck in the open position.

Perfect! Thanks for the advice. The throttles were jammed in the open position. Off to the store for some carb cleaner tomorrow.

Cheers,
Josh

Josh

Glad that worked out!

Post some pictures of your new find as we all like to compare notes and it helps with any questions you might have.

Also, put your location into your profile and you may find some forum guys who are local to you. Unlikely to be me in the UK, but you never know!

Enjoy your new acquisition.

Carbs were REALLY stuck after I brought it home so I used some 800 grit sandpaper and polishing compound and got them moving as smooth as glass. It's been a week sitting in the garage but I was able to finally start her today after everything was put back together. 3 things are still needing to be fixed though: 1)need to find where the neutral switch is as it won't illuminate. I hot wired the light and it does burn when touched to the instrument cluster 2)I ordered a battery strap as mine didn't have one but I need to find pictures of how to install because the rubber strap only seems to have 1 mount on the frame 3)rear wheel seems to have A LOT of drag on it from the brake (chain is tightened properly) so I'm going to explore the inner workings over a rainy day. Well, off to ride the bike!
