Center stand mounting holes

I went ahead and tore the rest apart because I just couldn't stand the buildup of greasearound the centerstand and swingarm (I hadn't planned on a complete tear-down, but whatever). Looks like it was a good idea because the swingarm rubber bits are all dried, cracked and in need of repair.

I found the centerstand/frame mounting holes both stretched out and chewed up a bit. They're oval-ish by about 25% toward the front. I was debating about welding a 1/8" outboard doubler to stabilize the bolts, but I was wondering if I'll cause any clearance issues with something else.

On the other hand, it's only the centerstand and a little wobble isn't a big deal.

Thoughts?

My bolts were worn out too so I need to buy / make some new ones.

Looks nice. I really like the simplicity of your solution.

My bolts may be worn .. I can't tell. They have a threaded part, then a smooth section (worn?), then a step to a larger ID (fits inside the centerstand holes). Seems overly complicated ... specially since the stock welds look almost amateurish with lots of "bird poop" splatter.

I was thinking ... why not just drill out the holes and install larger bolts ???? It means the 1" bolt section that rides inside the centerstand will be a threaded portion instead of a solid portion. Hmmm

Hi Dana

You could drill the holes out but I would be wary of using the threaded part as a wearing surface. As designed the bolt is arranged so that it bolts hard up to the frame (with the shoulder)' leveing the plain portion for the stand to pivot freely. The bolt should not be loose in the frame at all so if it is kept tight it shouldn't wear the hole in the the frame.

Whatever you do, try to make sure that the two new holes align properly so that the bike does not lean when it is on the center stand.

now im intrigued again, my red(faded to orange) framed bike came with a lot of extra pieces, including a black center stand, not sure where it goes, may have to check and see if the holes on mine are in good shape or not...
