Got ir tunning!

Post by cycimo » Fri Aug 25, 2006 8:43 am

Well after a couple days of wrenching, a new condenser, coil (after some looking realized it didn't have one), new points and a petcock re-build, she fired on the first kick (with a little help from some fuel down the carb).
Doesn't sound to bad either. I gave the bike a good steam cleaning with some de-greaser and polished her up.
I still have to find a new ignition. The current one is missing the key, but the previous owner rigged it to turn with a screw driver. Not the safest thing to do. If you want to kill the bike you have to pull the neg. lead on the battery.
The throttle sticks a little, which isn't too safe either. After some investigation I found that the spiral groove on the inside of the grip was worn and the slide hinge was binding. I'm not real sure how to fix this problem. I suppose I'll have to replace the grip and metal sleeve. Are these part available, does anyone know?
It still needs emblems and a new exhaust, but other than that she's done.
If anyone has suggestions for the ignition and throttle grip let me know.
Oh yeah, one more thing. I recently discovered that the engine Vin ca 77e and the Vin on the title ca78 are one number off. Has anyone seen this before? I thought my bike was a ca 77, but now I wonder if it's a ca 78 (is there such a thing)? Sorry for the long post.

Thanks Roger.

CA77/78's are the same thing. The number stamped on your frame on the port side down by the swing arm pivot bolt will most likely be the same number as the one on your title.

Those throttle part are available.

I think ohiocycle.com carries them.

He also carries metal badge replacements. Not quite like the original plastic ones but look good and much cheaper than plastic replacements.

Wow, one number apart is pretty amazing in and of itself.
