Simple Question...DUH?

Post by jcspc » Thu Mar 12, 2009 10:12 am

Did the 1965 CL77 come with the big slip on muffler or just the straight pipes with inserted baffles?

ALL 250 SCRAMBLERS HAD STRAIGHT PIPES WITH BAFFLE INSERTS. ALL 305 SCRAMBLERS HAD THE BIG UGLY MUFFLER. ME, I LIKE STRAIGHT PIPES WITH SNUFF OR NOTS.

The 1965 CL77 came with the slip on just as the 1965 CL72. Sometime in 1966 HONDA (bike number 1033482) started the welded on CAN type silencer. Somewhere in there the baffles were also changed at the end. . ..........................lm

The reason I ask is that I have baffle inserts with a 10mm short bolt with the head facing the toward the bike and see no evidence of rub marks of where the slip on might have been...
Did the inserts and the slip on use the one bolt on each of the pipes...?

Thanks

With the CL72 (up to 1965) the baffles were held in place with a 6mm bolt and lock washer. When the slip on came along a special screw (bolt sort of thing without a head and a screwdriver slot at the outside end) was issued. This allowed the slip on to be installed with the new style baffles (had a cap sort of thing with lots of holes sticking out the rear of the baffle) in the pipes. Well I wonder about that cause I have yet to see a slip on which didn't have a baffle plate inside. And of course the first rubber figure 8 seal was red neoprene rather than black. ..........lm
