Had to do it !

Post by Mike Mullins » Thu Oct 02, 2008 8:51 pm

I just had to do it. I put the new cables on and I rolled my CB 77 project out the basement door and rode it down the driveway. Popping, backfiring occasionally, clutch not releasing, no front brakes, seat not attached, what the hell, there's no traffic on my drive way: its 750 ft. long. This is getting to be habit forming. I was so pumped, I called my son at Purdue, and his comment was "no way you could ride it like it is." But he was excited too ( he wants a ride this weekend.) I havent felt like this since I rolled my old BMW R75/5 project out the basement door the first time and started it and rode it down the drive . This was my FIRST ride on a CB 77. EVER. These sure are neat little bikes !!!!

it is definitely a rush! at least it was when i fired mine up for the first time and took it for a ride up and down the road, no seat, gas lines haning from the ape hangers! isnt it funny how old bikes cloud our judgement of safety??

Ha! If it's safety you're after, stay in bed every day! If you want excitement, buy an old Honda and make it rideable...., and if pride is your thing, do a pukka resto. Like wordman5's CB77 http://www.honda305.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2476 or Dennis Lodge's (VJMC, UK) '61 CB72, below. They give us all something to work towards (if yours isn't there already, of course!)
