I've just gotten my 65 CB77 running and am working out the kinks. One of them is that the bolt that serves as the bearing for the shift lever pinches it when tightened. I can have it too loose or too tight but not in between. When loose there is too much slop in the lever to shift cleanly and it would eventually walk out. When too tight the arm won't move. It's a new bolt. shouldn't it bottom out before the lever is pinched?
I'd appreciate any suggestions,
Greg
Shift lever loose or tightIts a shoulder bolt - you should be able to tighten it up and the pedal should be free to rotate. I would advise against riding at all with it loose!!! Both parts (pedal and bolt) have been knocked off over the years and these parts may not be the exact dimensions of the Honda parts. Also, one or both may have been rechromed a little too thick. Make sure there are no washers in the assembly. Same set up on the brake pedal side - you might try swapping the bolts from side to side. If all else fails, I guess I would just grind a little off the face of the pedal until you have some clearance.
48 I picked up an aftermarket shift lever that I had to grind down just a little. Make sure not to take off too much otherwise you'll end up with too much slop when the bolt is tightened down all the way.
