Thanks I will give that a try.

Any thoughts on adding a bit of heat to the nut? Any concern of damage if done carefully?

I wouldn't use any heat; big (12") screwdriver with a solid handle or a big steel chisel, 5 lb sledge and you will win. There's a stiff conical spring washer behind it (at least there was when it left the factory) so it won't let loose all at once.
