Hey folks;
I pulled the right side cover on my 65 CB77 and had it welded as it was cracked. Upon reassembling everything, I come across two issues that I hope you can help me with. The first being that I noticed there was no "BALL" in the clutch adjuster for the clutch pushrod. Can anyone tell me what diameter ball goes in here? I went through all my books, and all diagrams show it, but none of the parts breakdowns list it by specs or P/N. 3/16 seems too small, and 1/4 seems too big by my judgement. Second is that the manual I have mentions "pre-winding" the kickstart spring while installing the cover, but does not explain the proceedure/limits. Can someone clarify this for me? Thanks.

1. The spring end that wraps around the bolt needs to have the orientation of an "S". 2. There is a punch mark and a "o" on the each of the two gears. 3. After the top gear is installed on top of the "S" spring, align the lower gear when installing so that EITHER the punch or the "o" line up. 4. With the crankcase flipped over, install the kickstart lever so that the punch on the arm aligns with the small punch on the tip of the shaft. 5. Go to the bike and turn the kickstart shaft that's in the transmission clockwise until it will not move any further. 6. Then as the kickstart lever is rotated, the gears should rotate around and either both punches or both "o's" will align. You'll find that the lever is now pointing up at about 2 o'clock. 7. Now hold the lever in this position and slip it onto the kickstart shaft on the bike and you're good to go. Hope this helps...Lee '62 CB77. "It's a rider."

Thanks for the input folks. I pretty much had everything set and figured the way you guys explained. Was just caught up on the ball bearing. And thanks for the offer to send me a bearing, but I had some here. I put it all together last night and everything (Kick starter and clutch) is working great. I must throw in a plug for Bill Silvers books here. Between the info provided in his books and the input from all you kind members, reworking this bike has (And will continue to be) been a breeze. No engineering garbage, just cold hard specs, facts, and methods that get the job done. Thanks again!.....................................Jeff
