the transmission of my 305 Dream has always made a sort of 'grinding noise'. Otherwise it runs fine and I've put many miles on it that way. There's never any metal in the oil (though I suppose the filter may be hiding it. Could this be caused by pitting on the tooth faces? Or is it a typical issue with old Dreams? Aside from occasionally popping out of 2nd gear when upshifting it shifts fine.
I'll be splitting the cases soon to have a closer look, as the engine froze up after sitting a few years, probably rings/cyl rust. I suppose one of the roller bearings on the crank or transmission shafts might also be making the noise, but it's done it for so long and over so many miles that if it was a bearing it probably would've greneded by now.
Also, kickstarting has always required more force than I think it should, perhaps due to the kickstart bushing?
Tanks in advance.
"Grinding' noise from transmission"Grinding' noise from transmissionDo what you've always done and you'll get what you've always had.
Re: "Grinding' noise from transmissionMy C72 also makes transmission noise. It hasn't got many miles on it and I've dismantled the gearbox, which is in very good condition.
I think that this noise is normal, due to the gearbox pinions which are on the right side (I doubt the translation "pignons à taille droite") and which whistle like on competition cars.
