Front fork knock pins

Post by Buck » Wed May 31, 2006 7:45 pm

Rebuilding forks on my 62 CB77 and the pistons on the bottom of the tubes are held on with 3 knock pins. My parts book shows knock pins but only calls for 2 total and these forks have 6 total. Is the parts book wrong on quanity or am I just not getting it?

Buck, Welcome to the 305 forum. Your '62 is the earlier version with steel lower legs(I think) Anyway there were some design changes in the later models ('65 and newer). The newer models with aluminum lowers have just two kniock pins. There are a number of other differences between early and late so you'll want to be aware of them as you restore your bike.Good Luck, Steve Greer

Fork Knock pins

Thanks Steve, my microfich only shows the 2 knock pins for later models. I guess they left out the early type in the description. Dealer says not available anymore. Can I reuse the old pins or do I need to find new ones? Buck Mitchell

Buck, That is an area Iv'e never had the pleasure to deal with,so I really don't know. I would defer to Ed Moore (emo@ktc.com) A true resource here and a all around good guy. It's just too damn bad he won't vote for my friend in the Texas Governers race. But then I'm letting my mind wander (sorry Michale) Steve Greer
