1966 ca77 shock question

Post by choctaw » Thu Nov 05, 2015 12:37 pm

I disassembled shock to have painted and bottom case re-chromed. My question is.. does it only use the heavy spring or is the shock suppose to work also?If the shock is suppose to work, how do you rebuild them. thanks,Mike.

Mike

There is oil and a damper piston / valve in the main body. It looks like yours is swaged rather than fitted with a screw cap so you need specialist equipment to cut the top off and then you need to re-create the fastening system.

Do you feel resistance if you push / pull on the rod? If so you may be able to just leave it as-is.

This is how I do the ones with screwed-in covers.

The swaged ones are possible but much harder.....
