Front Suspension Question.

Post by nziems » Sat Mar 15, 2014 8:57 pm

I am in the middle of a fun build. My first build. :)
I have a pair of front Shocks from a CA77, I am looking to understand more about how they work and if I can adjust the travel of the Shocks.

Also, Does any one know how to put the metal molding back on those shocks?
The pieces that cover the top half, up by the yolk and fork.

Thanks for the help![/b]

Hi

The front shocks are not adjustable. Could you clarify your question with some pictures. I don't quite understand what you are trying to do.

The front suspension, I am wondering if it's okay for the heights to be off from one another. I know they are not compressed, and what are the openings shown in blue?

I am having issues getting the cover pieces on. I know there is a difference in diameter for openings 1. and 2. But I am still having issues getting the cover pieces installed. I think it's because piece 2. is not cooperating.

OK - for a start those are CB77 forks not CA77 forks. CA77 forks are pressed steel.

Put the spindle through the bottom to get the fender brackets to line up.

Are the two tube diameters the same all the way up? You may have an odd set.

The steel covers fit on the lower triple clamp before you slide the tubes in.

The parts marked in blue on your picture are the front fender mounts.

The Diameter for the shaft of both tubes are the same, but the diameter widens in the middle of the tube.

You can see this in my picture. The chrome turns a dark grey, from dirt and what not, right there is where the diameter becomes larger. That is where I am running into the issue of having the covers fit.

How tight? Have you measured the tube and compared with the holes in the covers? Did the covers come with the forks?

The most narrow diameter is 1'' 1/4
The widest diameter is 1" 3/8
The width for my covers are 1"1/4

It's off by 1/8", I did buy them together, but to be honest I don't know if the covers were apart of the same suspension.

Clearly at this point I know it's off by 1/8", but is it normal for the tubes to not be consistent with diameters?
I would think that the whole shaft should be a consistent diameter. I'm just not sure, this being my first build and all.
