Snuff or Nots or BafflesSnuff or Nots or BafflesI haven't been on the Forum for a while as my 1968 CL77 has been sitting but it is ready to be on the road again. I have the straight pipes and as beautiful as they sound, my neighbors are not too happy with it. I have the original muffler that was cut off years ago but I don't want to put this back on. I like the idea of baffles, Snuff or Nots have gotten expensive and I need some suggestions. I heard the older model Volkswagen Beetle exhaust tips will work but who carries them at the best price? Any help out there?
Assume you saw my thread in this section regarding homemade baffles. I really need to make a vid for YouTube to give an idea of the sound level.
The VW tips will fit and should work okay. Certainly better than straight pipes. There were several 160 and 305 bikes at the Motogiro this weekend with that set up. Did not sound bad. Another option is Bates shorties, but they are pretty loud alone. If you put a baffle in the pipes and then the muffler, it should sound pretty good. Forget Supersnots. They don't do much to quiet the exhaust, and vibrate like crazy which makes them break and/or open up the hole you have to drill in the pipe. I had to weld up both of my pipes from huge holes worn in them from Snuf-a-phardts before I could install my baffles. I swore I saw a copy of the original baffles that came in CL72 being sold on one of the websites that sell vintage Honda stuff. Maybe it was eBay, but pretty sure it was an actual vendor with a website. regards, Rob I sent some of these over for Davo. Not sure if he used them.

My CL77 pipes have been extended with some slightly lighter gauge tube so they drop in OK. I also have several sets of NOS CL77 baffles from when David Silver cleaned out a US dealer recently. When I get the '77 up together I will try both types and see what works best. They look pretty good in your picture. I just love the look of the CL without that stupid-looking muffler thing.
