aftermarket mufflers
aftermarket mufflersI'm still quite a ways off from installing mufflers as you can see by my photo in the resto section but I might as well start looking....I don't really want to cough up $800 for a pair of stock looking mufflers as I'm not doing a 100 point resto and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with aftermarket mufflers. I'm installing flat bars and moving the pegs to their rearward position so appropriate mufflers might include some megaphone looking ones but I don't want to be a bad neighbor nor do I want to re-jet. I restored a '66 Ducati 250 with factory option megaphone and YIKES! I don't want to be that conspicuous again! Thanks for any suggestions.
JC Whitny has a couple different length megaphones, Dunstall style, or reverse megaphones which are really nice. They are a bit loud stock. I took my shorties , 18 inch, apart, and they has almost no muffler packing in them. I bought some FMF four stroke muffler packing, packed them really well, and they sound great now. Not too loud, not too quiet. Here's a link to thread with pics.
