Oil questions

Hi guys! New to this forum. Just picked up a 63' CB77. I haven't gotten a manual yet. Can you tell me where the oil drain plug is? Where the oil filter is & what type of oil to use, 5W30? Any manuals for free downloaded online? Thanks, Rich

The oil plug is under the engine, be careful not to bust off or strip any screws. I did this and it took a lot of work to fix. The filter is a bit different, it's a rotary filter that can be accessed inside the left side engine cover. It would be good to look for posts here about the filter. There is a thrust bearing that needs to be put in the right location to prevent damage. For oil, I use what LM suggests, 30W Non-Detergent. I found this at NAPA.

Gunner, when you say 'screws' plural, is it the one large bolt dead center or the plate that has many screws holding it on (sort of like on Tridents)?

The large hex plug is the oil drain plug. The smaller 10mm Hex screws retain the oil pump into the lower crankcase .

Buy the Bill Silvers manuals from this site. Restoration and Engine manuals . Information inside is worth every penny. Use the search at the top to find topics in categories that might have allready been covered. But the manuals will help you out a ton. They did for me.

Don't know if I'd be asking what kind of oil to use around here -- that is a dangerous subject!
