Apex muffler joints (CA77)

I'd be inclined to seek out a non-hardening high-temp paste, clean up the pipes' mating surfaces and apply a goodly smear to both male and female parts before refitting. Or you may wish to obtain and try a syringe of Ultra Safety Systems' 'Tef-Gel', which is good for at least 290ºC; I use it frequently, so I always have a syringe handy, ergo that would be my first substance to try out.

That may be what I end up with, but for now I'm trying to adapt copper header gaskets to fit between the exhaust pipe and muffler. They can be unrolled with patience, but there is a powdery substance (packing) inside the gasket....(surely not asbestos!).
I ended up cutting a slot in the mufflers so muffler clamps can be utilized.
By the way, the Apex mufflers appear to be very restrictive, since the baffles only have a few small holes to let the gas pass thru.
May try to address that at the same time.

Permatex 1372 may do the trick, possibly without the need for clamping or any copper interfacing; worth a try at under $14 here http://www.neverseezproducts.com/gasketseal.htm

The copper didn't work out. I ended up reverting to an old exhaust remedy from the past....beer can. Used to wrap and clamp them around a hole in the exhaust pipe on cars just to pass safety inspections.
Anyrate, the thickness of the aluminum is just right to fill the gap between the muffler and headpipe.

I did end up adjusting the flow of the mufflers with a long steel rod (sharpened) and a large hammer. Poked a couple of extra holes in each baffle. It does sound pretty close to stock now, not loud by any means, but deeper.
The Apex baffles (non-removable) only have 4 small holes in them, basically smothering the engine.
Also adjusted the right muffler up and in by levering a board under the muffler while it is mounted on the bike.

About the only way to seal that joint is with red silicone gasket sealer applied by coating the pipe & the inside of the muffler joint. The red one is good for 700 degrees so you should be fine. I would let it set up overnight to cure completely before starting the engine

I will be having this same issue in the future as I also bought the Apex mufflers. I have some high tempurature gasket material from a monitor heater I fixed up.
