CA77 front brake drum?CA77 front brake drum?Hi im fixing up my 1965 Honda dream 305. im tearing it apart, fixing it, cleaning it, polishing everything, and soon to be painted. But My new front drum and brakes came in today and noticed it doesnt match the old drum. I've done some looking to find what it is, and it appears to be a 1968 CB350 Front drum. The bike doesnt shake or rattle at all, but front brakes havent worked very good. I had to weld a plate to hold the cable in, since the cast retainer broke off the drum and figured that was the problem.
Has anyone seen a CB350 drum inside a CA77? It looks like it would have better brake force since it has 2 cams to disperse pressure evenly through the drum. Dont have pic yet but this is the front drum i have right now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-CB-350-FR ... SwtnpXo3M-
Hi there, it might be that you've got a cb350 or it might be a cb72 or cb77. I don't think they are the same size as the ca77 but would definitely work better than the original single leading shoe brake. Just for your info, it's the leading edge that gives a brake its bite so a twin leading shoe brake will perform better. I did consider looking into fitting one to my CA77 but was too impatient to get it on the road.
Re: CA77 front brake drum?Hi
That's a CL72/77 front brake. The CB350 has pressed steel brake arms and the CB72/77 has bolted in brake pivots. Not the same diameter as the Dream but it would be possible with a bit of effort to put a CB/CL hub in there. It is better than the Dream brake because it has two 'leading shoes' rather than one leading and one trailing. It is the wedging action of the leading shoe which does all of the braking effort. G

The ebay link is actually off a cl/cb450, i couldnt find any other cl/cb350 that matched it exactly. Always thought the way the cable was mounted looked wrong, last owner just put the ca77 cable through the cl/cb450 hub. Im gonna put the cl/cb450 cables and new shoes on and see how it works.
Yep - I think the CL77 and CB450 front hubs are the same. CB350 hubs are smaller.
