Location of grease fittings

Post by texasgrape » Thu Mar 23, 2017 3:58 pm

1967 CA77, I found 5 grease fittings: two on the front suspension arm (one on each side); one on the kick starter, one on the clutch, and one on the front brake panel near the axle. Am I missing any that may be hidden away? Thanks.

Yeah, you missed a couple. Look at rear brake lever on hub, Rear axle, Front Brake lever on hub, Couple of cable fittings, under gas tank and front fork. Have a look at this:

Hmm. I see the photos but I do not have fittings on the front or rear brake arms as shown in the photo. Nor do I have a back axle fitting. I do have a front axle fitting on the left side. I will look under the tank for the other two when I pull the tank off again. Thanks.

I would be very careful with any grease in the brake arm area to much and it can find it's way into the drum, perhaps Honda withdrew the nipples as folk were over doing the grease.

I'm sure you're right about Honda deleting the grease nipples from the brake fittings, Same applied with early CB models, these had grease nipples on the brake pivot pins which were soon discontinued.

Makes sense as to why there were deleted. I can see folks back in the day pumping those full of grease and getting on the brakes. FYI, I do not have a fitting on the rear axle anywhere. That does not make sense to me, but I'm sure there was a reason. Why have one on the front axle but not on the rear? No biggie; should be easy to repack.

While on the subject of grease, I see grease under both bearings on the steering stem, but no fittings. Guess to repack them you have to remove?

The CB72 and CB77 purchased new in the early 60's had no grease in the steering head bearings just one of the things Honda failed to do like very little paint under the tank.
