Rear Shock question

Post by Adam Tucker » Sun Dec 02, 2007 2:18 am

I have couple questions for all you experts out there. I am restoring a 1967 CL77 and I just realized that the rear shocks on my bike are definitely not stock, though they are from some honda from the same time period. At first, I thought they were just missing the lower covers because the shock springs are exposed, but further investigation proved that there is room or stop for lower covers. Does anyone know if there was a honda model with shocks that had top covers but no lowers. Also, I can't tell if I am over looking something obvious, but how do you take the early honda shocks apart. After 15 minutes of attempting to un-thread them by turning the swing arm mount counter-clockwise while holding the frame eyelet stationary, I realized I was getting nowhere. I assume the this is so because the shaft from the damper is just spinning. Please Help!

Do you have a parts book for this bike? That would help for sure. It's common to find covers missing on any of the CB/CL72/77 shocks. As you look at the top where the top cover is you will see 2 chrome half circle keepers. You need to compress the spring so the top cover allows those keepers to be removed. Heavy spring pressure there ya know! Or will! Now figure how you will get them back together before you take them apart. .........................lm
