Taking apart rear shocksTaking apart rear shocksHi all,

How do you pull the rear shocks apart, id like to get mine re-painted and chromed. The bike is a Honda CA72.

Thanks
Re: Taking apart rear shocksIt is pretty easy. I did my CL 72 shocks for painting and chroming.
I did it with the shocks off the bike. It is best with a helper but
can be done (grunt) with one person.
With the shocks in the normal upright position, set the bottom end on the end of a bench. Now grab the painted upper and pull down hard. There will be semicircular keepers at the top of the shock that can now be pulled out. When both are out, you can allow the shock to decompress and everything now just comes apart.
Re assemble is as you would expect. Compress and drop in the keepers.
Mike
Re: Taking apart rear shocksWith regard to stripping down the square type shocks of the CA77, they don't appear to have the circular collets like the round CB77 type. Also the top cover is plastic. Any suggestions on stripping these down? In looks in the manual that there is some sort of a locking nut under the top mounting. Any help would be appreciated.
