an idea

Post by perryT200 » Thu Feb 17, 2005 11:46 pm

unless someone has tried this and found it to cause problems, i think i know what i am going to do with the exhaust.

my headers are extremely discolored and rusted while the already after market mufflers are shot. better headers are about $100 on evilbay, mufflers can set you back double that.

so, i decided to completely cover up the exhaust headers with wrap.

http://www.sesametech.com/autorv.htm#hw

i can get the stainless steel wrap ties from eastwood

http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/search/
searchresultsmain.jsp?iMainCat=0&iSubCat=0&page
=2&searchType=advanced&keyword=WRAP&attribute14
=&attribute15=&attribute16=

i will of course lie to my harley riding acquaintances and say this is how ole skool Honda riders attempted to boost horsepower and performance.

for the authentic ole skool look i think i will find some fishtail mufflers on Evilbay or JCWhitney, then figure out a way to mount them.

it probably will not be optimum performance, but might look cool

the wrap to cover the exhaust headers cost like $1.50/ft, i had to order it from a company in Penn. i got 12ft of aluminum colored.

the fishtail mufflers showed up today.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... WN%3AIT

just slid on the headers, and a bad really bad pic, but here it is.
Image

and no, they aren't bent the wrong way or anything, i will have to tighten down the joint add a brace to the old bracket, and perhaps weld solid into place. but they look cool.
