Blue pipes

Post by Gregg W » Sat Feb 12, 2005 7:43 pm

The left exhaust pipe on my '65 CL77 was blue when I bought it. What causes this, a rich or lean mixture? The timing was advanced when I bought the bike, so I reset it to the correct mark. I noticed another post regarding pipe "yellowing." Am I stuck with the blue pipe or is there a secret potion to remove it? Thanks for the help......GW

Check the two carb intakes to see if the barrels are both lifting at the same time. I had a similar problem years ago on a new CB72. In my case, the carb on the cylinder with the blue exhaust, was lifting first. Adjusting this seemed to reduce the problem. You might have to adjust the slow running afterwards though.<br />As for the blue-ish colour, unless someone has devised some wonder chemical, I found chrome cleaned and a lot of elbow grease worked well. It did not remove it all but reduced it to a paller blue colour.
