scrambler exhaust baffles

Post by bigdog » Sat Feb 11, 2006 7:11 pm

Hello,
Does anyone out there happen to know where to find replacement exhaust baffles for a 1964 CL72 Scrambler? Has anyone had any luck restoring their old ones? How about those exhaust pipe extension mufflers I've noticed CoolRetroBikes sells - anyone try those yet?
Thanks!

Once in a while they come on eBay.
Those are way over priced Volkswagon pipes.
J.C. Whitney may still sell them. ...........lm

Try Ricksvintage@aol.com. I bought some good quality aftermarket copies baffles for my CL77 recently. They were $75 a set plus $5 shipping.

Thanks George. I'll look there.
I did see some on ebay this week. I think they were asking a bit less than $75, but I didn't look back to see what they eventually sold for. I may just try to clean my old ones up and reinstall them. Anyone have good ideas on how to remove rust effectively, and then what I might use to coat/paint them so they'll last? Thanks!

Bigdog,
The baffles you saw on eBay are also ricks vintage; same guy. Foe removing rust, I highly recommend Eastwood's OxiSolv Rust Remover. It is not caustic like naval jelly and doesn't stink either. As far as refinishing, you could try an engine paint. I also bought Eastwood's zinc plating kit which I would personally use.
Good luck.

George,
Thanks for your help. I'll check the stores for Eastwood's products. You're right about that navel jelly - caustic stuff! Zinc plating kit, huh? Sounds like an interesting alternative to engine paint. I'll look for it too. Thanks a lot!

Bigdog,
I don't think Eastwood has stores. Check them out on www.eastwood.com
