Front forks - different housings - confused

Post by toastyhamster » Thu Jan 22, 2009 9:39 am

Hi,

I have a CB72 - frame 102850, and I recently purchased a couple of fork housings off ebay (item 200296734056). However they do not fit my forks, they are very very close but the thread is too large. I have another pair of 51471-268-000 housings to compare them to and they are identical except for the wider thread. According to the parts book and Bill Silvers guide it's the right part, so I think it was maybe mis-labelled at some time, certainly I can't complain about the quality or the ebay seller.

It's not clear from anything I've found whether the fork shrouds on the later forks are very different or maybe I just have a later housing, or even it's from a different bike completely.

Any comments from the part number specialists? I'm trying to resolve this with the seller, so any references would be great.

I can't really help you except to say I was in the same boat with an early CB72. It's very confusing, and the parts manuals do not show all the variations.
