Help Req. Due to Stupidity - Forks

Post by toastyhamster » Fri Dec 19, 2008 9:06 am

This is my own fault - I should have taken a picture of the forks before I stripped them down.

I've got the early forks, and I'm just putting them back together after getting the middle chrome piece back from the chromers - question is - where do the bits inside it fit? D'oh!

The parts diagram isn't much use on this - I've fitted the fork seals - but I have the large o-ring and what the parts manual calls the front fork oil seal retainer to fit. I think the o-ring goes into a recess just above the threads, but there's no groove for the retainer to fit, if I slide it on top of the oil seal it flaps about.

Help!

Also the process of chroming has meant I can't get the thread started to put it onto the fork - so work required there - nothing is easy on this bike! Still I managed to fit the steering lock cover today!

Wow this bike is frustrating!

Managed to work out where everything went, but it's academic for the moment, the chomer has wrecked the chrome fork shrouds, not only have they filled the holes used to screw them onto the fork leg but somehow they've managed to shrink the tapered part so it won't actually pass over the threads without wrecking them. So - see post in Wanted...
