Gas leaking around mounting bolt Honda 305 Dream

Post by bretm1 » Sun Nov 09, 2008 7:55 pm

Hi, I have a 1965 Dream 305. I just bought a used tank and gas is weeping from around the mounting bolt on the right side. Anyone run into this?? The tank is clean on the inside but would a sealer help? Also is there anything anyone has used on the outside in these situations. I searched and found info on sealing the inside, but not the outside. Thanks Bret

Are you sure it's not coming from the petcock or crossover fitting?

The threaded part the bolt goes into is spot welded to the bottom of the tank.

Thanks. I double checked to see where it was coming from and it is not the petcock or the crossover fitting. I will probably try some two part epoxy or JB Weld on the outside, and try drizzling some of the KREEM sealer into that corner. If that fails, I will break down and bring it to a welder, who can braise the area.

In the meantime, I am glad I had bought another tank which was stripped inside and out to bare metal. That one is on there now and I will have it painted eventually.

I'm assuming this issue is common where you have two fairly rigid mounts on each side with a peice of metal welded on to hold the female side. It is somewhat of a design issue.

Thanks All again
