CL77 Right carb problem

There is a small orifice on the floor of the carb throat that lines up with the low speed jet. Pull the jet out and see if light comes through the hole. It's a good idea to poke a piece of wire through there to remove varnish buildup around the edges.

Excellent idea. I'll give that a try. It looks like it wouldn't take much to clog those small openings.

Check the float level as well. I usually get about 45cc of gas out of a full float bowl with float level set correctly.

Thanks for all of the advice all. I have removed the carb, soaked in carb cleaner, installed a new rebuild kit and all is well. Starts first kick and idles nicely, for a while. Now a new problem has come up. After starting and driving a short distance the idles starts to creep up and gets pretty high. The slides are seated and everything seems to be working correctly. Could this be something in the ignition system?

I haven't but that is a thought. I will try it this evening and see if it makes a difference. Thanks Loud Mouse.

I tried loosening the gas cap but it has no effect on the idle speed. Could this be a governor spring problem, after all, it is over 40 years old?

Also, another problem has started. The ol CL starts fine and runs great for a mile or so but then it starts losing power and will slow down and quit like it is getting fuel starved. I will stand there with it and give it ten minutes and then it will kick over and I haul for home.

Any ideas out there?
