Use a detergent motor oil. Stay away from the current "energy conserving" oils, they don't have enough protection for the non-roller style valve gear in these old bikes. I use 15/40 weight, diesel spec, Chevron Delo 400( or Shell Rotella) motor oil. You can buy the stuff in gallons at Walmart for a pretty resonable price.

Hi,

How many times are you going to ask this question ?
Until you have an answer you like ? In another section you ask the same question, why ?

(and what is wrong with investing some time using the search button ?)

Sorry trying to figure out how to use this site. I'm used to a steve saunders goldwing forum were they actually are nice to you and welcome you with open arms. I realized that i posted it in the wrong place sorry to offend you. If everybody on this forum is as rude as you maybe this is not the place for me.

Hi Down,
Jensey is not rude and will help you on just about anything you ask about. I would say probably 99.9% of the folks on this forum will bend over backwards for you including me. On this forum we have multiple topics that cover just about anything you want to talk about but we expect the folks using it to put their question or statement, etc., in the proper topic. If its what kind of oil to use it should be under the engine topic or what will a certain type of oil due to my clutch, you would put under the transmission topic and so on. Hope this helps you out. Cliff

thanks cliff i appreciate it ive been helping people and been helped by many folk on other forums and i am the same way. i will go out of my way to help anybody anyway i can. i have a lot of experiance with mechanical anything and if i don't know how something works i figure it out. I can be a bit anal about things from time to time but i just look at it as attention to detail. This bike belonged to my father and he just turned 75 and is in not good health. last time he rode it was 30 to 35 years ago and then just parked it. my first order was to make sure the engine is in good health then strip it down I shall pot some pics soon. And I made the mistake of posting this here when i meant to post it in the engine section and delete this. Didn' mean to say that he is rude just that it came off very rude. and also tried the search more than a few times and i guese i just didn't word it correctly
