With thanks for the tips, got my '64 Dream Touring back together. Started after just a few kicks, runs really well. something's missing

Aha. Something called a 'roller, 5x6.5' that goes somewhere between the counter shaft and its end bushing is missing. The parts diagram and service manual I have didn't identify it, but the wonderful people at CMS-NL have the best fiches in the world and that helped me out. Even a good bike doesn't ...

Thanks Waveblaster, I'll check that out. When apart, and before putting back in frame, when I turned the shafts the starter shaft turned also…I kinda thought that would be inconvenient while driving!

Had to do a rebuild on my '64 c78 (believe it's a JDM 305 Dream) - when I had the cases split I had all gears turning smoothly. But when I put the motor in the frame, I couldn't get the chain on because I can't turn the output shaft (with its gear for the rear-wheel chain). I took it back out, check...

Thanks G-man, good to hear my sizes are in the right ballpark.

I'll take readings with 2 decimals. My spiffy new digital meter seems a bit wonky, it sporadically jumps from numbers like 60.23 to -1459.59. I just have to repeat the measurements many times to get a good reading.
