Re: Lost a tappetThanks for the reply's. That's my working theory: that the locking nut vibrated off and disappeared into the bowels of the engine and the tappet slowly unscrewed, pressed against the inside of the cap and banged a hole and slowly tapped a threaded hole during its escape.

It'll be a mystery as to where the tappet made its way to until engine disassembly but I'm intrigued by the hole in the valve cover that looks as if it were drilled and tapped. I wonder if ...
