Electric Starter

Electric starter problem: I have had intermittent problems with the electric starter since I rebuilt my 1966 CP77. A year or two ago, the starter would work: If the engine was warm. If the battery was fully charged. If it felt like it. Now it won't start unless I kick it. I have read previous posts ...

Note to Steve: Finally got warm enough to drive. Tightening the head bolts did not help, but the seepage is only a couple of tablespoons a week, so I am going to put up with it for now. The winkers I have are non stock (much larger, and I hope, safer). The winker switch is also non stock. Ebay is by...

Thanks LM.
I forgot about the ones under the spark plugs.
It will be a while before I drive it (still below freezing here).

Head Gasket Replacement

I have a 1966 CP77. I have rebuilt/restored pretty much everything except the engine. It runs strong and smooth and does not burn any oil, but it does leak slightly around the front of the head. By "slightly" i mean about an ounce per week, and only after running for a while. I have the gasket set, ...

Problem solved.
I had secured the throttle cable with a nylon strap that was too tight.
When I turned the handlebars too far to the left, it pulled on the throttle cable.

I have a few more "issues" that I will address in a later post.

Thanks to all who replied.

I have a similar problem. Mine occasionally takes a long time to come down from 4000 rpm. When idling, it will sometimes just take off on its own to around 4000, then come back down again (without touching the throttle). I haven't driven it any further than around the block a few times, so I have no...

Thanks for your replies. I couldn't find the proper hub, and didn't want to go looking for another speedo, so I turned the wheel around. My apologies to the purists who want everything "correct", but this has been a year long project, and I really wanted to get riding. It worked! I now have a speedo...
