I have my carb pretty much disassembled and have been using carb cleaner to work off the varnish left on all of the components by the gas that sat in it for the last 20 years. Is it OK if I soak all of the carb components in a solution, mabye just water & possibly soap for a while? Or is there a spe...

noone posted a reply, so I figured I'd let you know what I did

under the advice of some one I met, I took a small propane torch and heated up the area around where the mufler attached then I was able to work it loose

removing muffler

I started to tear down my '61 CB72, one of the exhaust pipes came right off but the other is refusing to budge. Any tips on how to remove this pipe, I already messed it up a little bit trying to froce it off but I don't want to completly destroy it.

OK this might sound like a dumb question but does the oil for a 61 hawk need to be a straight 30 or can you use a 5w-30 or a 10w-30.

Where do I start?

I was hoping that I would be able to get my '61 CB72 started at least once before I started tear things off of it, but unfortunately I'll have to start blindly searching for the problems. Right now I'm planing on cleaning out the gas tank.,working on the carbs, & the petcock valve. Since I don't kno...

The # on the frame is CB72 - 11433. I took some pictures of the bike I will transfer them to my computer tomorrow.

The numbers that I got off the engine are CB72E - 111434, my carbs a PW22HOV, & on the side of the cylinder it says TYPE 1.

Where would the number be located on the frame? It was dark out and my flashlight is not that power full so I didn't look for it very long.
