petcock seal

So, I'm familiar with old bikes and this type of petcock construction, but I am having difficulty getting my petcock to shut off properly. It slowly drips gas into the carbs then of course out the overflow. I bought a new kit from Kevin Hahn ( Scrambler cycle), lapped the surface of the rotating val...

Again, thanks. After church today I went out to the shop, used the vernier, and tapped the assembly from the ends until I got equivalent outer bearing recess on each end, sufficient to allow the head covers to seal, ( about .155 depth to allow for the .150 cover protrusions. All looks good. In retro...

Thanks again LM and G-man. I stand corrected in that if I carefully look I can see bearing on the right inner side against the shoulder of the center gear. So, since the inner bearings are shouldered on the cam and if the bearing inner race shoulders against the center gear, the cams are fully engage...

I am 80 miles east of Minneapolis, Mn. I will follow the points you make in your description. It is easy to see 'flush with the cam sprocket on the left side, but with the rotary nut it is difficult to see 'flush' with the sprocket on the right side, even if I hand tighten the nut. Cams flush with t...

Cam installation//Understanding Bill Silver's notes

This is my first honda resto, it's going into my personal collection. In looking at the cam design, I'm not sure how to interpret Bill's notes on his pp. 46 engine repair guide. Of the three main pieces, what locates the center, and what locates the two cams. Bill mentions .002-4 side play, but once...

staked crank seal

I'm new to hondas , but familiar with bikes and just adding one to my personal collection of bikes from my youth, ( yes I am retired). This early cl77 engine seems untouched in everything I have examined so far, but what I ran into today has me a bit baffled. In pulling out the seals on the right si...

Test Summary

G-man/ all Well, not having had this construction apart I did not know what I might be dealing with. Here goes. I was in the shop, starting heating up the lower bung, and as I did so the internal spring pushed the slider out by about an inch. Yes!!! From there, it became more restricted, and not kno...
