Is it normal for oil to come up the tacho cable or have I got a breather problem. I noticed that there is no seal on the drive gear to stop this.

Were the hubs painted on any surfaces, my rear hub is silver on the sprocket side, is that correct?

Glad you fixed the starter OK, on starters when you press the button the coils can try to twist and cut through the insulation on the poles. When checked for shorts to case on the bench they check fine. I normally varnish the windings once they are back in to hold them tight.
