Used transmission swap 1965 CB77

I'm swapping the transmission out of my 1965 CB77 for a used one off ebay. Does the year of the transmission matter or can any CB77 tranny fit into a 1965? Also, do you guys have any other tips for buying used transmissions? I've just been checking to see if all the gear dogs are intact... Thanks so...

Thanks Chase! That got it! I didn't realize that held the cases together! Thought it was just for the valley cover bracket...

Cracking open the cases

I'm doing a complete restore on my 1965 CB77 and for the life of me I can't get the cases open to get to the transmission. (2nd gear is bad) Does anyone have any advice or tips I can try without damaging the cases? Thanks!
