Well, I pulled the slide out of the carb, and found a small burr in the slot that slides over the guide to orient the slide. Cleaned that up, and re-assembled. Slide and cable snap back. My cable runs the same route as 48lesco's. Binding, and slow throttle return seems to be a recurring theme with the CA77's. Has anyone tried to double up on the return springs in the carb to help overcome whatever friction there is in the cable?

Conbs, thanks for the advice, all that you suggested has already been done. I'm thinking the problem is in the slide now, unfortunately. I tried to fiddle with it earlier, and now it seems to be stuck in the full open position.

Well, I got her running! Turns out the spark problem just needed a little more love, (points file vs. 400 grit sand paper), and she fires with the original points, condenser, and coil. I met Bill Silvers the other night, fortunately he is nearby. He went out of his way to find a set of points for me...

Wow, I didn't think this would be so difficult to pin down! My bike has an engine number that is 500 above the limit listed for 1963, and a frame number that is 200 numbers under the upper limit listed for for a 1963 CA77, but is clearly stamped CA78. I will try to post some pics ASAP. Can some one ...
