I think you need a later cover, they are wider at the top to accommodate the later CB77 style battery.

When I was a young chap my C72 had this problem after reassembly, the cam was one tooth out.
Kept fouling plugs tag lag. I was sure I had assembled it correctly too doh!

For sale on Ebay UK very hard to find nos left hand silencer for a C72/C77, ok the chrome has deteriorated a bit but where else are these for sale? Hello, just read your post. I'm in the UK and have several bikes most of which I'm going to offload because I'm never going to get around to doing them. I have a 62 C72, 62 C77 (both pressed steel handlebars) 64 C72, a couple of 65 CA77's in bits plus a mass of parts: engines, frames, wheels, boxes ...
