how to remove side cover off completely. A small part of the kick start is in the way.

The carb is getting stuck in low speed. I have lube the cable with no luck. I think the return spring is too weak for being so old. Any ideas?

Just picked up 1965 dream 305. Started right up however, some smoke is coming out valve cover thru. a rubber hose. What could be the problem.
