I beg to differ about the possibility of a timing differential with the 305 advance unit. If the advance weights are not moving smoothly or the advance springs are worn, it could happen. Perhaps using a timing light on each set of point with the engine running would provide useful data. Come to thin...

This evening, I replaced the knuckle with one that has better splines, and it seems to have solved the problem. I got to hear the bike run for the first time, and other than a hail of sunflower seeds(!) from the muffler, it sounded good and settled right into a nice idle. Thanks to all for their sug...

I don't know about arcing points, but the centrifugal advance can cause differential timing issues between the two cylinders if it is not operating correctly. This could cause the "popping". I have not experienced this with my CL77, but did on my /2 BMW.

Check and see if the arm is still loose on the shaft even after tightening. The first one or two teeth at the bolt area can be ground off and allows the arm to grip the shaft better. Not my idea, I read it somewhere. Brady I'm not getting a good mental image of what you are proposing. I did machine...

Condenser

It has been my experience that condensers break down as they warm up. Perhaps your coils are at fault.

CL77 kickstarter question

All, The kickstarter on one of my CL77's skips where the "knuckle" sits on the shaft. Visual inspection reveals that shaft splines are worn, probably the result of lack of grease on the splines. I tried slightly compressing the knuckle, which did result in a tighter fit, however it still skips. It l...

CL77 Speedo Question

All, I recently replaced my inner and outer speedo cable, properly lubed and installed. Speedo has 3.3K miles. I took my CL77 for a ride yesterday. The temps were in the high 40's(f). The speedo started out indicating accurately and steadily, then suddenly climbed erratically and pinned at over 100 ...
