Re: 1967 305 CL77 Engine

Here's what we did on our Yamaha XS650 (750) race bikes, engines similar to the 305: To remove the top end without pulling the engine we cut screwdriver slots in the tops of the studs. With the studs out the top end could be removed without pulling the engine. In your case you'll have to double-nut ...

Re: CB Tranmission in CA cases??

Transmission shafts fit fine, but final gearing of the two bikes is quite different, so a larger rear sprocket is needed. The CB gears with back-cut dogs and much better than the CA gears.

Re: Freeing up 'Frozen' 305 Pistons

Good info, thanks. This particular CB engine had been sitting under the house for at least 20 years, and probably somewhere else before that. Plugs had also been removed. I spent a few weeks heating it and squirting various concoctions into the cylinders to no avail. After all the aggravation I had ...

Freeing up 'Frozen' 305 Pistons

For those stymied by frozen pistons, don't bother trying to beat them out with heat and various 'liquid-wrench-type concoctions. The aggravation and associated mechanical mayhem isn't worth it. Disassemble the engine, remove the cylinder studs and mount the top case with cylinder and crank in a hydr...

Re: CB77 Engine for sale in Hawaii

Yes, sort of.... Since that post I've disassembled it because the pistons were frozen in the cylinder. My Dream suffered the same problem and I had to destroy one of the pistons to free it up, and I don't want to do that to the CB engine.I have access to a nice hydraulic press and I made a wooden st...
