valve guide Remmoval
valve guide RemmovalAnyone know how to get the valve guide out of a 305 head. I’ve removed the circlinp and I’m heating up the area but it’s stuck fast. Should I be trying to remove it from the top into the head or the bottom into the barrel opening. Any tips welcome
Re: valve guide RemmovalYou need a stepped punch that fits the bore of the guide and buts against the end. I knocked mine out from the combustion chamber side from memory. Heat helps.
In the picture the tool is shown in the 'wrong' side of the guide. You can see by the shiny surface of the guide and the circlip which way it came out..... G

There are companies in the UK who will bore out the guides and insert bronze liners.

valve guidesI do them as G man says, put the head in the oven at 200deg and use welding gloves(gets really hot), an ally drift with a shoulder on it, never fails. Beware wait till the wife goes out before using oven.
Cheers Al.
